About the Role

The successful delivery of the Partnership strategy is critical to the continued success of the Partnership.  At the heart of the Partnership Plan is the Transformation Team, responsible for the creation and successful delivery of a £500m+ annual portfolio plan as part of our multi-year journey. As we move into the next phase of our transformation, we have an opportunity for an experienced Portfolio Reporting & Management Information (MI) Manager to join our team.

The Partnership operating model is built around a “hub and spoke” model, with transformation teams in each of our lines of business (John Lewis, Waitrose, Financial Service, Pan-Partnership) connected to an efficient and effective Enterprise hub. The Transformation Office (the Enterprise “hub”) is responsible for the planning, governance, performance management and reporting of the Partnership’s £500m+ Change Portfolio, setting standards and owning the underpinning delivery framework and tools. With visibility of change across the Partnership, the Transformation Office will use data and analytics to provide a clear view of the momentum of the portfolio, and insight to recommend interventions, inform decision making, mitigate delivery risks and continuously improve our delivery engine.

The Portfolio Reporting and MI Manager is a pivotal role in a new function as part of a refreshed operating model, and a brilliant opportunity for the right person to come in and shape how the team operates. As part of the newly formed Transformation Office, this role will be responsible for leading activities at Enterprise level on portfolio reporting and MI. You will also be responsible for working closely with the PMO Brand Lead in each of the Partnerships lines of business to create an efficient and effective model across reporting and analysis, using the depth of knowledge from each PMO Brand Lead combined with your breadth of oversight at an Enterprise level, to inform insight and recommendations across the Partnership portfolio.

We are looking for an individual with a real appetite for continuous improvement, and with a clear strength in innovation to work with other Partners to turn problems, opportunities and ideas into tangible improvements. You will partner with other parts of the business to enable the continuous improvement of data management, analysis and reporting in order to gain better insights and resulting actions.

The role is to lead the Enterprise level Transformation Office Reporting and MI function to analyse and synthesise reporting data, and to provide insight and actionable intelligence that generates productive conversations, enables effective troubleshooting, facilitates early interventions and supports prompt decision-making which contributes towards safeguarding the delivery of the Partnership’s Change Portfolio, while also facilitating insight from within each Brand line and surfacing pan-Partnership trends. You will be relentless in asking ‘why’, always looking for ways to improve our understanding of portfolio performance. And you will be skilled in surfacing insight in a clear and succinct way, drawing focus to priority areas and recommending actions and next steps to the Transformation leadership team.

You will be a dynamic leader, managing a team of skilled Analysts to deliver high-quality analytics and reporting. You will also work in close collaboration with Brand PMO Leads, and partner with Finance and other key stakeholders.

It will be critical for the role holder to have Enterprise level expertise within large organisations in Management Information, data analysis including root cause analysis, diverse visualisation techniques and synthesising intricate information into clear and concise Senior Leadership and Exec level reports. In addition they will need to collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, have a consistent approach to high standards and continuous improvement and act as a critical friend.

In this role, your key responsibility is to drive timely and consistent reporting and analytics processes at Enterprise level. This encompasses conducting thorough root cause analyses and identifying trends to provide actionable insights. An integral aspect of your role involves tailoring content to cater to diverse audiences within the business, and ensuring the business operates from a single source of truth set of information in an efficient and effective way. Leveraging your expertise, you will utilise visualisation techniques and reporting tools available within the Partnership to translate complex information into clear, comprehensible narratives that inform and empower stakeholders at all levels.

You will also be the Product Owner of our Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) tool (Planview) and will need to develop a good understanding of the system's functionality and capabilities. Your role encompasses ensuring the system is aligned with the Partnership's needs and requirements through effective management and prioritisation of the backlog, making the most of any available development budget. You will work in close partnership with the Methods & Process team to regularly review tooling requirements, continuous improvements and other opportunities. Your responsibilities extend to overseeing all facets of the PPM system, including dashboards and establishing yourself as a Champion of the tool within the business, managing a centre of excellence to promote and ensure best practices across the Change community.
