Kai’s Story
Partner & Apprentice Vehicle Workshop Technician
Meet Kai, who is in the final year of his three-year apprenticeship as a Commercial Vehicle Paint Technician.
Kai’s journey with us began on the shop floor as a Supermarket Assistant at our Oxford Street Waitrose branch. He spent his early days learning the ropes, building friendships, and even tackling night shifts – replenishing the busy shop during quieter hours.

A lifelong car enthusiast with a personal vehicle collection he loves to work on, Kai knew he had to go for it when he spotted the apprenticeship opportunity at our Vehicle Maintenance Unit.
The role was clearly meant to be, though it got off to a memorable start as his own car broke down on the drive home from the interview! (Something he looks back on with a laugh, now!)
Throughout his apprenticeship, Kai has been honing his craft at our central body shop, collaborating with colleagues and fellow apprentices to build his portfolio, and travelling to Bristol to complete elements of his apprenticeship.
For a true vehicle-lover, it’s a perfect fit. One skill he particularly enjoys is masking; which requires such focus that it can feel quite therapeutic – his own words! While it’s one of the more tricky tasks to master, it’s certainly one of the less-dusty parts of the job.
We’re wishing Kai all the best for his final qualifications, and we can’t wait to see what the road ahead holds for him!
