
About the role
As a Catering Assistant Team Leader, you'll help oversee the running of the catering operation within the site you work and support a team of Catering Assistants.
You'll work alongside the catering management team to deliver an exceptional dining experience for all those using the facility and help create a culture of development and inclusion for the rest of the catering team.
If you join us from 5th October 2025, in addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 18:00 - 22:00 will attract an Evening Premium at a rate of £3.00 per hour, and any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract a Night Premium at a rate of £4.00 per hour. This will also apply to existing Partners who have enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week 11:30-19:30 2 weekends to be worked based on a 4 week rota

Essential skills you’ll need
● Operational experience in Dining Room facilities and the Hospitality industry
● Stakeholder management or senior influencing skills
Desirable skills you could bring
● Food Safety Level 2 and 3
What will you do

Ensure food safety requirements are maintained.

Full Site & Department Induction training from day 1

As online training Food Safety Level 2 within 3 months & Food safety level 3 straight after both of these will be mandatory once in role

To delegate tasks to the Catering Assistants

To help & support the Catering Assistant: you will need to have a good knowledge of all the tasks that are completed-Day to Day facilitate training for our Catering Assistant

To induct new starters

You will learn and use our Food Monitoring System

Create Weekly rota following Partners work schedules & Holiday approvals and planning

Ordering: online food ordering / uniform ordering

Update department online invoicing & sales details

Support Team Managers with interviews

Full training on Department programs to be provided

Ensure the vending operation delivers outstanding service to meet Partners needs.

Ensure that fresh food, snack and hot beverage machines across the site are replenished and in a good working order

Look after the stock inventory across the campuses with minimal supervision

Attend each vending machine in line with the service requirements, ensure it is clean and fully stocked with accurate pricing to provide a great service.
Job Requirements
Apply the John Lewis food safety policies and procedures which include all legislation applicable to the Catering operation
Ability to oversee the opening, closing and daily running of the operation
Prepare food to a high standard
