Meena’s Story

Partner & Waitrose Team Manager

Hello, I’m Meena.

My journey with the Partnership began 20 years ago, driven by a lifelong passion for food that made Waitrose my employer of choice. Having experienced other retail environments, I recognised the unique value of our employee-owned model and committed to staying with the business until retirement.

Over the last two years, I embarked on a path of significant self-discovery, which led me to complete a Level 5 Apprenticeship to further my career progression and leadership capabilities. My vision is to foster a Partner-led operation where we, as leaders, guide and coach our teams to achieve long-term cultural change and excellence.

Furthermore, I am honoured to serve in a voluntary capacity as Co-Lead for the Faith and Belief Network, one of the nine internal Partnership Networks. This role is a privilege, as it allows us to represent our communities’ views and actively influence business policies regarding faith and belief through direct Partner input.

In April 2026, the John Lewis Partnership was awarded the UK’s most faith-friendly retail organisation, by the UK Faith-Friendly Workplace REDI Index.

I am most proud of my ability to share the vibrant traditions of my Hindu and Malaysian heritage. This dual background has fostered a deep appreciation for diverse culinary cultures, which I love bringing into our workplace environment.

To celebrate South Asian Heritage Month this July, I am excited to cook and share some of my favourite dishes. I am planning to make a Malaysian-inspired prawn sambal accompanied by a vegetable stir-fry, along with a traditional Indian chickpea and spinach dhal served with rice.

Regarding my professional growth, I have just completed a short-term secondment with the Learning team. Outside of work, I often take advantage of our Partner Benefits when booking concert tickets and staying at various Partnership hotels.
