What’s the role about?
We’re looking for an experienced Fresh Produce Technical Manager to join the team who are responsible for our own label Fresh Produce suppliers & growers, defined supply chains and products to meet the Waitrose technical brand standards. You will have the ability to deliver Product & Varietal Development in collaboration with internal stakeholders & suppliers. You will also be confident in building relationships and managing suppliers and growers with a focus on the end to end process.
You will need to be someone who can work autonomously with confidence and is proactive to drive improvements. You will have the ability to work effectively across many levels of an organisation, with strong communication and influencing skills both internally and externally.
What will you be doing?
Technical management of new and existing Waitrose Fresh Produce products and their production to ensure the quality, safety, legality, brand standards and provenance.
Onboarding new suppliers and growers in line with Waitrose Technical Standards
Ensuring product safety, quality, legality and relevant brand standards are maintained throughout the supply chain and branch operation.
Understanding the factors affecting fresh produce quality and setting out and delivering improvement plans
Working collaboratively with other functions within the trading teams (Buying, Brand Development, Space and Value and Supply Chain) to deliver Product plan and Tender programmes for the category and achieve shared KPIs.
Identifying product or supplier risks within the category and developing plans to mitigate
In collaboration with Regulatory, Policy & Compliance and other relevant teams, contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate technical, agronomic,legal and brand strategies, policies and standards
What you'll have
Extensive Fresh Produce experience (at supplier and/or retailer)
Supplier and grower management experience
A clear understanding of the agronomic factors affecting fresh produce production
Knowledge of packing processes and relevant accreditation standards
Knowledge of key drivers of sustainable agricultural production
