Duties & Responsibilities

John Lewis is looking to recruit a circular economy expert to become part of a market-leading sustainability team.This role requires someone with expert experience of working on high-level circular economy principles across products, services and supply chains, couple with, a track record of turning them into actionable business practice. The candidate will need have the ability to engage, influence and inspire stakeholders across multiple operating functions and the expertise to develop and deliver our ambitions for this area.

This role would ideally suit someone who already has expertise in and a passion for sustainability and the circular economy and has the drive, energy and ambition to work independently to establish this function in John Lewis.

Job Requirements

As the Sustainability Manager you will be required to ensure that John Lewis and its suppliers are embedding circular economy principles into their strategic plans and developing an industry-leading approach to how products are designed, made and handled at end-of-life. Seek opportunities for John Lewis and Waitrose to work together on projects and activity that enhance the Partnerships reputation.

Lead the development of a comprehensive strategy for delivering business opportunities within the circular economy. Driving innovation across product and packaging supply chains, service propositions and John Lewis's own operations, which help to maximise resource efficiency and differentiates the John Lewis brand.

Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to develop an approach to delivering the strategy that is impact-led, has clearly defined objectives and targets, and has an activity plan that drives performance. Establish publicly reported KPIs that maintain John Lewis' position among the market leaders and work with Senior Sustainability Manager to engage the relevant parts of the business to deliver them.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

Extensive knowledge of circular economy principles and resource efficiency
Strong understanding of environmental legislation, certification standards, assurance schemes and improvement programmes
Proven track record of networking and influencing both internally and externally and working in partnership with NGOs and industry bodies
Excellent presentation / public speaking skills.
Experience of sustainability reporting Media issue management
