What’s the role about?
As a Supplier Strategy Lead in the Supplier Management profession you will own and manage the Supplier Strategy which aligns with Category strategies to maximise profit and mitigate risk for John Lewis.
You will be responsible for the successful onboarding of suppliers including system setup, scorecarding, contracting, termination and exit, and work with the Sourcing Profession and Operational teams to ensure Trading has access to scalable future facing business models, negotiation support, supplier performance data, guidance and best practice tools.
What you’ll be doing as a Supplier Strategy Lead
Setting of strategic direction for the CPG supplier strategy across Brand and OB with clear targets for teams to Grow, Hold, Decline, Exit suppliers.
Supporting buyers with negotiations which are complex, sets parameters with Head of Category on how to define which suppliers meet the parameters
Monitoring for external risks arising from supplier landscape and changing retail landscape, surfacing these in a timely manner to the Head of Category
Ensuring existing and new business models are identified and scaled or adapted to support changing customer demands
Ensuring contracts and commercial agreements are in place with suppliers that maximise value for the partnership and minimise risk.
Improvement in profitability as a result of decreasing COG's within Category
Providing clear POV about supply base opportunities (Grow/Hold/Decline/Exit) based on scorecard metrics and analysis of supplier KPI's
Ensuring there is a robust supplier strategy in place for each Category that meets customer and profit goals
Defining the metrics that should be used to benchmark suppliers through the scorecarding process
Deciding when to seek legal support and when issues can be resolved internally within the team use knowledge gained
Working with CPG to decide which suppliers need to be a focus for renegotiation to drive improvements in commercial terms
Work with Sourcing to achieve best results for the Partnership taking a global perspective on opportunities and risk"
What you’ll have?
Experienced negotiation skills developed from time in role where it forms a key activity e.g Buyer. Completion of recognised qualification e.g GAP skilled negotiator course.
Experience in a senior commercial role as a buyer/category manager, understands business profitability metrics, levers and how these can be traded to improve overall business profitability.
Strategic thinking - has proven experience in being able to take a broad data pool and use it to formulate a strategy that is clear, well defined , understood and communicated.
Extensive experience in a retail background

Contracts and ability to review complex legal documentation

Strong levels of stakeholder management, can influence vertically at all levels as well horizontally to deliver the best outcomes.
