Duties & Responsibilities

John Lewis Group IT is looking for an experienced Solution Architect to help take it to the next level in developing its Merchandise Operations capability. As a key member of the Group IT Strategy & Architecture team, this individual will be at the heart of the team replacing the systems supporting this capability and integrating them with surrounding applications.

You will understand the opportunities and challenges in creating a compelling applications vision that is consistent with the values of quality and service that are central to this powerful brand. Working closely with our programme delivery team, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between our wider IT architecture and the implementation of packages supporting these processes.

Of particular significance to our strategy is the need to undertake a significant overhaul of our Supplier Ordering, Branch Replenishment and Stock Management and Visibility applications, so that we can deliver an efficient and near real time supply chain to meet our customer's expectations.

Job Requirements

As a solution architect, your role will include helping to select and shape the direction of the solution as well as ensuring that there is robust integration with other systems and services such as: Product Information, Master Data Management, Warehouse Management Systems, Forecasting Systems etc. We are selecting COTS solutions and configuring them to meet the strategic needs of Waitrose and our customers.

Initially the work will be focused on how the Partnership can deliver value quickly from the currently available capabilities, be they from the current roll-out plan of our target platform, from current heritage solutions or others potentially from the market. This will need to be a balanced approach so will require insight into the dependencies between capabilities and pragmatism as to the best way to deliver value while stepping toward a strategic target.

Specifically your first activity will be to deliver an assessment and recommendation on how to deliver a key set of prioritised business capabilities in the context of a strategic Merchandise Operations programme and the need to deliver value quickly.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

You have the following experience/skills/knowledge:
- A solid background in Solution Architecture methodologies and toolsets
- Solution architecture retail experience in Grocery and GM - ideally Ordering and Replenishment, Stock Management and Core Retail solutions, with experience of the Oracle MOM / RMS suite being preferred (SAP or JDA will also be considered)
- A firm understanding of architectural principles and communicating these
Proven ability to deliver flexible, reliable, supportable, cost effective IT solutions
- Demonstrable understanding of Service Oriented Architecture design and integration patterns
- Led and coordinated technical resources including designers and other architects
- Experience of working with 3rd party partners and software vendors during selection and configuration.

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

*Travel travel to your non-base office will be expected 1-2 days per week.
