Duties & Responsibilities

The Group IT Architecture Team here at The John Lewis Partnership are currently seeking applications for a Solution Architect - Commerce (Grocery) to join them at our Head Office in Bracknell.

We are looking to build a modern, market leading digital platform, across multiple client form-factors and technologies, so that we can successfully realise our omni-channel strategy. As a Solution Architect focusing on digital commerce, your role will include helping to shape the strategic direction of the digital channels as well as ensuring that there is robust integration with dependent systems and services such as: Content Management, Product Information, Customer Information, Order Management, Digital Marketing and Payment, and alignment with the other transformation programmes that John Lewis is undertaking.

Job Requirements

It will be your responsibility to help take Waitrose Online to the next level in developing its strategic digital and retail commerce capability, extending it's leadership in omni-channel retailing. As a key member of the Technology Strategy and Architecture team, you will be at the heart of developing a commerce landscape to support the wider needs of the business.

You will understand the opportunities and challenges in creating a compelling omni-channel channel business, such that we can deliver a digital customer experience that properly complements our in-store proposition. Working embedded with our e-commerce delivery team, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between our wider retail IT architecture and the implementation of the digital channel, as well as providing technical leadership and direction with regard to the software architecture of the landscape itself.

Creating an eCommerce capability for Waitrose that can operate effectively alongside bricks and mortar stores is complex and challenging. Few roles offer the opportunity to operate in the retail IT arena on this scale.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

This is a key role that will be critical to defining the technical roadmap for digital Commerce, and so it is important that you have:
- An understanding of solution architecture, digital and agile delivery methodologies and tools techniques, with a focus on e-commerce architecture and design.
- Strong technical knowledge of modern customer centric e-commerce technologies running at scale.
- Strong technical knowledge of modern open source web technologies.
- Proven ability to deliver flexible, reliable, supportable, cost effective IT solutions.

In addition, you should be able to demonstrate that you have:
- Experience in systems integration, APIs, Micro Services, Cloud and Service Oriented Architecture design.
- Worked effectively as a solution architect within an agile development methodology.
- Experience of working with 3rd party partners and software vendors during design and build.
- A track record of exploiting digital innovation and continuous improvement thinking.
