Duties & Responsibilities

The Group IT Architecture Team here at The John Lewis Partnership are currently seeking applications for a Solution Architect - Distribution to join them at our Head Office in Victoria or Bracknell.

We are looking to build an efficient and modern supply chain distribution network, fit for omni-channel retailing. As a Solution Architect focusing on warehousing and transportation solutions, your role will include helping to shape the strategic direction of warehouse operations, use of automation/robots, transport optimisation and operational insight, as well as ensuring that there is robust integration with dependent systems and services such as: supplier ordering, branch replenishment, customer order management, and alignment with the other transformation programmes that the John Lewis Partnership is undertaking.

Job Requirements

It will be your responsibility to help take John Lewis and Waitrose Distribution to the next level in developing its strategic pan-partnership distribution capabilities, delivering a distribution network designed to serve omni-channel retailing. As a key member of the Technology Strategy and Architecture team, you will be at the heart of developing a distribution landscape to support the wider needs of the business.

You will understand the opportunities and challenges in creating an efficient omni-channel supply chain distribution network, such that we can deliver an optimal service to both branches and customers. Working embedded with our distribution delivery teams, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between our wider supply chain IT architecture, as well as providing technical leadership and direction with regard to the software architecture of the landscape itself.

Creating a supply chain distribution network capability for the John Lewis Partnership that can operate efficiently and effectively in serving both bricks & mortar stores and customer delivery is complex and challenging. Few roles offer the opportunity to operate in the distribution IT arena on this scale.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

This is a key role that will be critical to defining the technical roadmap for Distribution across the partnership, and so it is important that you have:
- An understanding of solution architecture, software selection and integration, with a focus on warehouse and/or transport management architecture and design.
- Strong technical knowledge of modern omni-channel distribution
- Proven ability to deliver flexible, reliable, supportable, cost effective IT solutions.

In addition, you should be able to demonstrate that you have:
- Experience in COTS systems integration, real time messaging and services.
- Worked effectively as a solution architect within a multi-discipline team.
- Experience of working with 3rd party partners and software vendors during design and build.
- A track record of exploiting software functionality and continuous improvement thinking.
