Waitrose Digital consists of over 30 Agile Product teams working to drive new features and achieve business objectives. The IT Strategy & Architecture Team is responsible for directing these technology changes in enabling senior stakeholders to meet key business and technology challenges.

What’s the role about:
As a Solution Architect you will be focused on digital commerce, your role will include helping to shape the strategic direction of the digital channels as well as ensuring that there is robust integration with dependent systems and services such as: Content Management, Product Information, Customer Information, Order Management, Digital Marketing and Payment, and alignment with the other transformation programmes that the partnership is undertaking.
We are looking for a highly-experienced technologist with a deep understanding of digital commerce, who is capable of inspiring and empowering teams of engineers, delivery leads and product owners to deliver compelling customer propositions that maximise the potential of our great brand.
What you’ll be doing as a Solution Architect:
You will be responsible to help take Waitrose & Partners to the next level of digital and retail commerce capability, extending our leadership in omni-channel retailing
As a key member of the Selling Architecture team, you will be at the heart of establishing the Partnership's commerce technology strategy in the Waitrose & Partners brand and across all channels (physical and digital)
You will help to inform the thinking of senior stakeholders to meet key business and technology challenges. You’ll influence the product backlog and determine how the technology strategy will be achieved for our selling channels.
You will understand the opportunities and challenges in creating a compelling omni-channel business, such that we can deliver a digital customer experience that properly complements our in-store proposition.
What you’ll have:
Experience and understanding of multi-channel Digital Commerce and Architecture
Experience generating and pitching proposals to Senior IT and Business leadership
Experience of working with multiple agile teams at the same time, effectively governing the architecture outputs without becoming a roadblock for CI/CD
Ability to support product managers prioritising backlogs by providing tech options
Exceptional influencing skills, with the ability to advise and recommend with real credibility at all levels and manage complex stakeholder relationships, whilst being appreciative of current and emerging technologies
Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a focussed, simple and commercially relevant manner to a senior audience
Technical Competencies: You should have broad understanding of current techniques and tooling including: Domain driven design, Microservices, REST, GraphQL, Data Streaming, SQL & NoSQL DB’s, Containerisation and PaaS compute on GCP or AWS, Java/Kotlin, JS & React.
