Duties & Responsibilities

Our Technology & Change function here at The John Lewis Partnership are currently seeking applications for a Solution Architect - Commerce (Grocery) to join their IT Architecture Team based at our Head Office in Bracknell.

It will be your responsibility to help take Waitrose to the next level in developing its strategic digital and retail commerce capability, extending it's leadership in omnichannel retailing. As a key member of the Technology Strategy and Architecture team, you will be at the heart of developing a commerce landscape to support the wider needs of the business.

You will understand the opportunities and challenges in creating a compelling omni channel business, such that we can deliver a digital customer experience that properly complements our in-store proposition. Working embedded with our e-commerce delivery teams, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between our wider retail IT architecture and the implementation of the digital channel, as well as providing technical leadership and direction with regards to the delivery of our microservices digital architecture and how it is embedded within the wider technology landscape.

Job Requirements

As a Solution Architect focusing on digital grocery, your role will include helping to shape the strategic direction of the digital channels as well as ensuring that there is robust integration with dependent systems and services such as: Content Management, Product Information, Customer Information, Order Management, Digital Marketing and Payment, and alignment with the other transformation programmes that Waitrose is undertaking.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

This is a key role that will be critical to delivering our technical roadmap for digital Grocery, and so it is important that you have strong technical knowledge of modern technology platforms and open source development technologies including:

- Deep understanding of solution architecture, including microservice decomposition and various integration patterns such API's and message queues.
- Experience of digital and agile delivery methodologies, tools and techniques.
- Strong technical knowledge of modern customer centric e-commerce technologies running at scale.
- Strong technical knowledge of modern open source web frameworks, platforms and tool chains. Eg, Java/JS/Node/React/Jenkins
- Solution architecture experience of using PaaS/serverless and containers in public cloud (either AWS or GCP)
- Experience of working with 3rd party partners and software vendors during design and build.
Knowledge of cloud based relational and noSQL database technologies
