Duties & Responsibilities

We are transforming and expanding our e-commerce platform and therefore have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and talented Software Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Waitrose Digital Delivery team.

You will have a passion for software development and be keen to get involved to help deliver solutions iteratively and collaboratively. You will be involved in a number of areas within delivery, with the ambition to continue building your technical skills and knowledge. You will have the support of the senior technical engineers to enable you to continuously improve through coaching and knowledge sharing.

You will have a number of the desired skills being asked for and will want to expand into areas where you are less familiar. You should be an active team member, working in a collaborative way to deliver the desired outcomes as set out by the Product Owners. You will be keen to work with new technology and have the ability to think in an innovative manner to help the team deliver business value.

You should always have a focus on quality, ensuring the technical delivery meets the needs of the business, but is also supportable and maintainable. You will contribute to delivering an exceptional online service for our customers.

Job Requirements

You will have some of the following skills or experiences for this role and support will be given to the right candidate to gain additional skills:

- Agile practices e.g Scrum, Kanban
- Development within a self-organizing and cross-functional agile team
- Techniques such as Test Driven Development (TDD), Pair Programming and Peer Code Reviews
- Quality implementation (supportable, maintainable, scalable and secure) of Java code, including unit tests.
- Problem resolution of production issues
- Assisting in release management.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

Programming languages:
- Java (essential)
- JavaScript (desired)

Build tools:
- Gradle (or) Maven

Architectural styles:
- Web services, REST API, Micro services

- e.g Unit, BDD, TDD, Functional

Web frameworks / technologies:
- Springboot, Serverless (AWS Lambda), Docker, Kubernetes, AEM

Application Lifecycle Management Tools:
- JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, CI/CD, NexusPro (or) similar.
