Duties & Responsibilities

Partnership Performance Test Engineers are responsible for delivery of work across Analysis, Development and Testing within teams contributing to the delivery of new products. This role is crucial to the delivery of the Partnership Business Strategies.
Performance Test Engineers work both as part of a self organising delivery team of roughly 7 (+/-2) colleagues, and also as an internal consultant across multiple teams, offering coaching, mentoring and training.
Performance Test Engineers have deep skills in their area of specialism, advanced skills in lean and agile techniques, and a breadth of other skills that help them and their team to deliver greater value and and optimise the flow of the team's work.
Performance Test Engineers stay on top of current trends in their areas of specialism and are able to recognise where new approaches may be of benefit to the Partnership and apply them to test whether they are.

Job Requirements

The role holders will work within one or more delivery teams, performing tasks that help the team progress and deliver shippable quality solutions. With a specific focus on tasks related to performance and resilience engineering, the Performance Test Engineer could also pick up more generic delivery tasks.
The role holder will also be expected to mentor those within Partnership IT who need guidance on topics including:

- Understanding performance and resilience product risk analysis
- Performance and resilience engineering practices including methods of providing early and continuous feedback to delivery teams about the impacts of their changes
- Understanding real world load profiles to shape testing under load
- How monitoring and alerting in production environments can be leveraged and good practice in conducting other experiments in production.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

The successful candidate will have demonstrable skills & knowledge in the following areas:

- Understanding solution architectures and how these contribute to solutions' ultimate performant and resilient natures
- Identifying & analysing performance and resilience risks and devising responses to these risks
- Performance and resilience testing approaches, including those appropriate in nature for;
- Early and continuous performance feedback within delivery teams
- Providing feedback on how architecture and design has mitigated or otherwise resiliency risks
- A range of proprietary and open source tools used in testing to exert load; monitor responses; capture server and network metrics; capture, analyse and report on results
- Technical and organisational root cause analysis of failing metrics and KPIs
- Using a combination of business and technical data to understand and communicate to a broad audience the business impact of a solution's performant and resilient nature

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- Ability to influence approaches, tactics and strategies at all levels
- Experience in operating in a complex, dynamic and challenging environment
- Problem searching as well as creative problem resolution skills
- Ability to constructively challenge in order to optimise solutions and maximise efficiency
