This role is a fixed term contract/secondment for 12 months.

This role is known internally as Pension Specialist.

What’s the role about? 

This is an exciting new opportunity for a Pension Training Manager (known internally as a Pension Specialist) to join a busy Pension Operations team within John Lewis Partnership and take the lead on learning and development initiatives. Our in-house Pensions team help and advise 80,000+ current members working across the Partnership, plus 63,000 deferred members and 37,000 pensions in payment. We are looking for someone with a passionate and creative approach to quality-focused training with a strong pension background.  The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a high-quality and positive learning experience for our Partners.

What you’ll be doing as Pension Training Manager:

  • Owning the training plan for new and existing Partners - Designing and implementing a training programme across Pension Operations. 
    Training will cover the improvement of pension knowledge, core business process skills and administrator communications with members.  You will create the training content, deliver the programme and engage Partners with their learning goals.  This will also include designing a pension administration and member service training plan for onboarding new Partners that covers their first 90 days of joining Pension Operations. 

  • Identify skills gaps and training needs.
    Working closely with operational managers to identify skills gaps and developing training to resolve.  Identifying where external professional pension training can be used to support the internal training model.  

  • Communicating the plan.
    Leading the promotion and communication of training and development initiatives.  This should include creating training records for ensuring Partners have attended and complete the training relevant to their needs and business requirements. 

  • Design and develop creative training content for delivering via multiple channels including group face to face, Google/Zoom meetings, pre-recorded videos and written documents. 
    Support development and implementation of a range of learning materials and content design templates.  Create internal training records to document learning and subsequent validations  

  • Deliver Training.
    Deliver and facilitate training sessions.  Support internal experts in the delivery of their training.  Guide our internal experts and people managers on training techniques to help them deliver interactive and effective sessions.   

  • Central focus for all training queries from the Pension Operation team, taking onboard feedback, comments and suggestions for future improvement. 

What you’ll already have: 

  • A detailed and practical knowledge of statutory legislation pertinent to running DB and DC schemes

  • Working towards qualification of APMI or equivalent

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
