Duties & Responsibilities

The Menu and Product Development Manager is part of the John Lewis Head Office Product Services team. The role is responsible for developing and delivering a product assortment for the John Lewis own brand catering outlets that delight our customers.

Product Services is a team of John Lewis Partners who design and trade service propositions that both support and differentiate our product offer, whilst delivering profit in their own right. The customer is at the heart of everything that we do, working across five exciting service areas:

Hospitality - both own brand and third-party catering
Core Home Services - the centralised service for our customers who have purchased bespoke and fitted home items
Electronic Home Technology Services - including Added Care, added value services, installations and repairs
Adjacencies - Beauty Services, Opticians and Kuoni
Advisory Services - Personal Styling, Home Design, Nursery Advice and Gift List

Job Requirements

This exciting opportunity will be looking to pull together your commerciality, passion for food and what customers expect in a food proposition from John Lewis.
The role will require creative flair, awareness of food trends coupled with the nutritional value and overall appeal and aesthetics of what is on offer.
The propositions you enhance and develop should drive financial returns for our business and also encourage our Customers to engage more deeply with our brand and spend more time in our Branches.
You and the team will be working to build and seasonally refresh an assortment with broad customer appeal that maximizes participation in own brand catering.
The range architecture will need to be appropriate for the market and be set to maintain competitive retail pricing, negotiating alongside the Purchasing Manager to ensure that the menu delivers appropriate gross margins.
Our suppliers should be both broad and balanced to maintain resilience in the supply chain and the best commercial terms.
As with all food related roles, you will be required to ensure the offer is compliant with Food, Health and Safety and Licensing legislation in addition to John Lewis business policy. Seeking input from internal external experts as needed.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

Experience in a role that includes:- menu construction and food development- working in a food service / hospitality operation.
Commercially and financially astute
Passion for food, food trends and innovation

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications
