Duties & Responsibilities

The Leckford Estate was purchased by John Spedan Lewis, the founder of the John Lewis Partnership, in 1929. The estate is 1,600 hectares in size and is split down the middle, north to south, by the River Test, famous as the home of fly-fishing.

The estate is organised around four business units, supported by the estate office team:
- Farming - with arable, dairy, beef, orchard and vineyard enterprises
- Food Processing - Mushroom Farm, Processing Dairy and an Oilseed Processing Unit
- Retail, Leisure and Events - including a Farm Shop, Café, Nursery, Fishing and Golf
- Property

Looking for a new challenge? Our unique farm estate at Leckford is looking for a Maintenance Operations Manager to lead and coach the maintenance and engineering function on the estate. Experienced in farming/ food manufacture and having a solid level of engineering knowledge. You will be expected to develop the Maintenance function to provide high quality cost effective internal maintenance provision supported by third party contractors as required that is both planned and reactive enabling the estate to function effectively at all times.

You will also be responsible for budget management and helping to shape investment choices through effective asset management. You will be experienced in effective risk management, safe working practices and contractor management providing assurance to the senior leadership team.

Job Requirements

Key responsibilities to include;

- Develop a high performing team who are motivated and achieve more through behaviours and operational actions

- Develops a sound working relationship with Head of Leckford, Business Unit Leads and Department Managers

- Contribute to Leckford capital planning approach through effective asset life cycle management

- Provide routine management reporting to support

- Liaise with central Maintenance teams to ensure Leckford is adopting best practice and working to business requirements at all times

- Lead local team in step-changing operational resilience through greater focus on Planned Preventative Maintenance

- Establish SLA's requirements to meet operational requirements, providing effective operational resilience and assurance at all times

- Responsible for the delivery of all group Maintenance capital projects, in line with the investment programme and agreed timescales

- Demonstrate active support to reduce the Partnerships carbon footprint

- Champions health and safety and risk management

- Effectively manages parts store and workshop ensuring full visibility of inventory

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Extensive experience of operating within a food manufacturing or processing environment and managing a team of multi skilled technicians

- Knowledge of maintenance C.A.F.M systems and record keeping for work orders and preventative maintenance

- Extensive Line management experience with strong process orientation and development skills and ability to motivate others

- Industry body membership (food manufacturing and farming)

- CSCS card holder

- Strong IT experience and knowledge including Microsoft office suite Knowledge of CDM

- Strong stakeholder management at all levels

- Influencing and negotiating skills

- Ability to manage effectively and efficiently a team remotely

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- Educated to CND level in management


- Project management qualification


- Institute of Occupational Safety and Health


- Experience of land based and small scale enterprises

- Familiarity with BRC, Red Tractor, LEAF and Soil Association assurance standards
