Duties & Responsibilities

The Group IT Architecture Team at The John Lewis Partnership have an opening for a Lead Enterprise Architect (Technical Architecture) to join them on a permanent basis here at our Head Office in Bracknell.

The Enterprise Architecture Lead for Technical Infrastructure is responsible for the capability of the Partnership's underpinning technology services to ensure the platforms, infrastructure and services support the Partnership's current and future operations. They are responsible for creating a compelling technology vision that underpins the business strategy, and will work closely with senior business and IT stakeholders to influence adoption of their vision, moving toward a service-oriented infrastructure that exploits and promotes cloud architectures and agile provisioning at a challenging yet realistic pace.

You will have a solid understanding of the role of Technical Architecture within a wider architecture landscape, in particular how it supports application architectures and DevOps whilst complementing security and integration objectives. You will understand the challenges and value of managing disruptive influences such as cloud and BYOx alongside traditional enterprise environments, and be aware of the different approaches needed to develop strategies and architectures that address the stakeholders of technical infrastructure and of End User Computing service portfolios. You will also have experience leading an architecture team; ensuring the skills portfolio matches the demands of the domain, whilst setting broader strategic direction to ensure your architects are aligned to a common vision.

Working as member of the Strategy & Architecture leadership team you will help define wider technology principles and policies, managing the function's relationships with key stakeholders across the business and ensuring the function operates effectively and plays a critical role in supporting the Partnership's key strategic agendas.

Job Requirements

As the Enterprise Architecture Lead for Technical Infrastructure your role will be to develop and lead your team to shape the IT Architecture in this broad area. You will be accountable for the production of various strategies within the scope of technical architecture, leading your team to ensure the development of strategies, principles, standards and architecture for hosting (on-premises and cloud, IaaS and PaaS), enterprise/cloud tooling (including for the support of DevOps operations), and End User Computing.

You will be working with senior business and IT stakeholders across John Lewis, Waitrose and Group functions to ensure that developed strategies and roadmaps match their needs whilst also supporting the overall Partnership strategy, and you will contribute to the development of the wider Technology Strategy. You will ensure Partnership delivery programmes for infrastructure and EUC are aligned and prioritised against the strategic outcomes.

You will provide clear framework and scope of responsibilities across your team, ensuring it has the skills and capacity to manage existing and pipeline workload, and that processes and frameworks exist to service architecture engagements efficiently and effectively.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have the following experience/skills:
- Demonstrable experience of board-level stakeholder management and able to convey complex messages in a simple way to audiences at all levels, from vision to execution
- Significant, proven and successful domain expertise and experience covering all facets of IT Infrastructure and End User Computing; able to maintain the respect and trust of technical stakeholders.
- Experience of financial modelling and prioritisation as it pertains to strategic IT investment, able to demonstrate how business and industry drivers are reflected through to investment roadmaps
- Experience of building, developing and leading architecture teams, and working with a mix of employees and third parties
- Experience providing coaching and mentoring to members of your own as well as other teams
- Knowledge of relevant industry architecture frameworks and standards (e.g.TOGAF)

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

* Please note that although you will be based at our Head Office in Bracknell, travel to our Head Office in London will be required on a weekly basis (1-2 days).
