Duties & Responsibilities

In this role, you will need to supervise, coach and provide expert technical support to a team of Demand Planners held accountable for the management of centrally produced forecasts to create demand plans for on average 6,000 lines with a sales value in the region of £650 million per annum.
To maximise sales across the Waitrose estate whilst balancing working capital, wastage and stock availability accordingly. To manage demand plans effectively to accommodate seasonal and promotional events through appropriate analysis. To challenge, influence and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the product life cycle delivers against all targeted KPIs.

Job Requirements

This is an extremely demanding role in a fast-paced and pressurised environment that requires the ability to work to deadlines, prioritise and multi-task. Practical thinking on a daily basis, as well as an ability to think abstractly and theoretically, are essential to support strategic planning Lead Demand Planners will develop strong collaborative relationships with Suppliers and Commercial colleagues and will be able to utilise these relationships to influence and implement cross-directorate improvements in order to benefit availability, wastage and profit.

A large part of this role relates to understanding complex processes & systems which require the ability to problem solve and drive improvements.

The Product Supply teams are made up of highly numerate and analytical Partners who have developed an in-depth knowledge in their area of forecasting. Lead Demand Planners have confidence to interrogate and analyse data and are capable of adapting their communication style to effectively present their findings to a variety of stakeholders according to their priorities and needs.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

GCSE (or equivalent) English & Maths (A-C)

Relevant A-levels or equivalent
A strong communicator and influencer with experience of managing relationships with suppliers or customers
Experience within an FMCG/Retail sector
Strong analytical skills eg Excel

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications


Proven experience in demand planning/sales or category management within an FMCG business
Advanced Excel and data query skills using large amounts of data from multiple sources
