Duties & Responsibilities

The Group IT Architecture Team here at The John Lewis Partnership are currently seeking applications for an Integration Architect to join us at our Head Office in Victoria, London or Bracknell, Berkshire.

Effective systems integration is important to the Partnership. Without expertise in a multiplicity of tools, technologies, platforms and integration approaches we could not cope with the complexity of systems integration required to support the organisation's priorities. As a trusted adviser you will help us to define the Partnership's integration strategy supporting the Waitrose and John Lewis business strategies. You will be expected to:
- Provide consultancy to projects on the most appropriate technologies that fit within project constraints.

- Produce architectural artefacts to a high level of quality.
- Draw from your extensive experience with message-based, file-based and API-based integration to provide clear, concise and trusted advice.
- Drive the integration platform roadmaps to help us constantly evolve our capabilities, keeping pace with the wider business strategies.

It will be necessary to keep an eye on the prevailing trends within IT (e.g. Cloud Computing, Containers, Agile) and form a view on how these might impact our domain and what we should do to face into them. You will also understand, use and develop further architectural design patterns to support integration requirements across a broad range of project sizes and complexity.

Integration within the Partnership is a truly dynamic domain. By joining the team you will get the opportunity to have direct influence over the success of the biggest changes happening within our organisation. This role sits within a wider integration and information domain and this will provide additional opportunities to be involved in our information, data management and data platform strategies.

Job Requirements

- Research emerging system integration trends to ensure our roadmaps keep pace with our competitors.
- Help to develop and communicate the integration strategy with key partners to gain input, consensus and to influence decision-making.
- Cooperate with other domain leads to understand the constraints, assumptions, issues and imperatives relating to their domain and how to address these over time.
- Own and communicate our design patterns to ensure alignment to the evolving business strategies.
- Produce project integration architecture artefacts and review lower-level design documentation.
- Participate in project and department forums to provide assurance on architectural principle conformance.
- Evaluate integration architectural options in terms of cost, speed, strategic alignment, risk and systems fit in order to provide recommendations.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

You have the following experience/skills/knowledge:
- Practical experience of deployment, configuration and management of file, message and API-based integration technologies and platforms.
- Experience working in both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies.
- Experience of both centralised and decentralised integration delivery approaches.
- Experience in incorporating multiple perspectives in decision-making.
- Ability to build and share strategic roadmaps, considering a wide range of influences and constraints.
- Ability to represent complex concepts and models at different levels of abstraction: logical, physical, conceptual.

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

Experience/skills/knowledge in the following technologies is desirable:
- Ab Initio, webMethods, Apigee, BluePrism and Google Cloud Platform.

You should be familiar with most of the following concepts:
SOAP, SOA, ESB, ETL, ELT, REST, JSON, XML, EDI, Web Services, Web APIs, OpenAPI, RAML, Batch and Streaming Data Processing Pipelines, MapReduce, microservices and Message Oriented Middleware.
