Duties & Responsibilities

Room Y is the John Lewis Partnership innovation design lab - a small team of hackers, designers and makers that make the future more malleable. We work across John Lewis and Waitrose to identify opportunities and answer
them with a hands-on, human-centric approach; we research future scenarios that support the strategy of the company and could broaden the Partnership's offering; we bring these to the customers through new
experiences in our own spaces.
So if you are curious, passionate, and want to make a difference, if you can generate challenging ideas that question the status quo and nudge incremental thinking then this is the role for you.

You can find a recent selection of our experimentations at our instagram @room_why

Job Requirements

- Inspire the future of the Partnership by rapidly bringing to life your ideas of future products, services and experiences, through engaging experiments, prototypes and visualisations.
- Help identify innovation opportunities throughout the business by interfacing with various departments throughout both John Lewis and Waitrose. Support these teams with creative thinking and a co-design approach (workshops, ideation, proposals, demos...).
- Support the Room Y team in the execution of Partner- or customer-facing events, production builds and live experiences.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Hold a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Design
- Have strong visual skills and are able to create intriguing presentation material and compelling demos to communicate your ideas.
- Support your thinking through a hands-on approach, and are comfortable using tools in physical and digital prototyping.
- Able to work closely with a team but also to take initiatives and progress individually. You are comfortable not being told what to do and are proactive in a loosely structured role.
- Have experience working in a creative role / environment
- Have a rich portfolio of products, experiences, or experiments that demonstrate your expertise.

Please note that an absolute requirement to support your application/CV is a portfolio of your work. Please send a pdf copy to myself (Gregory Smith) at gregory.smith@partnershipservices.co.uk -

Please aware of two points of importance;

1) that your portfolio must be a pdf version, I am not able to accept a link to external website or We Transfer and
2) failure to send me a copy will mean that your application will not be considered and I will not be able to allow for an exceptions to this point.
