This role is based in London with some travel to Bracknell required.

Duties & Responsibilities

We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join our Tax team as an Indirect Tax Manager here at the John Lewis Partnership.

As an Indirect Tax Manager you will be required to ensure the overall integrity of the Partnership's indirect tax returns and affairs through regular monitoring and implementation of robust and sustainable tax controls. You will provide advice and value added insight to the business. You will also support with setting the indirect tax strategy and policies for the Partnership, monitoring legislative developments and identification of their impact on the Partnership.

Job Requirements

In this role you will be responsible for:

Quality and compliance
- Reviewing all indirect tax returns prior to submission
- Reviewing and communicating legislative changes and case law
Service Delivery
- Ensuring the team maintains close contact with Finance and Commercial teams and providing advice and value added insight concerning initiatives in the business. You will also manage the relationship with external advisors, auditors and HMRC on indirect tax matters.
Delivering Change
- Identifying opportunities to optimize the Partnership's indirect tax position, ensuring that arrangements are managed and implemented in a controlled and accurate manner
- Supporting the identification and development of the overall Tax Strategy and Tax policies for the Partnership, taking account of the risk appetite mandated by the Partnership Board. Communicating these policies to the business and externally as required
Partner Management and Development
- Accountable for the on-going line management of direct reports throughout the
Partner life-cycle. Accountable for supporting direct reports in their personal and
professional development, helping them see their potential and make the most of
internal and external resources to ensure a personal and positive Partner Experience.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- CTA and / or significant experience
- Indirect Tax specialism with a strong technical knowledge of Indirect Tax
- Significant relevant experience, preferably gained in a corporate environment
- Strong stakeholder management skills including the ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including those outside of the Finance function
- Good self-organisation is essential
- Close attention to detail coupled with an ability to take a pragmatic and commercial view
- The ability to manage demands on time and strong management skills

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- VAT experience in retail
- Accounting qualification
