Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting into the Director, Legal the Head of Regulatory will be responsible for management and provision of high quality and commercially focused legal support with a particular focus on Regulatory Compliance. You will also be expected to provide general commercial legal advice and support to the John Lewis Partnership.

This is an exciting opportunity for a significantly experienced Senior Commercial and Regulatory Lawyer to join a busy in-house legal team. You will be responsible for implementing and managing a Partnership wide regulatory compliance framework that aligns to the strategic objectives of the business. You will enhance knowledge and understanding of the compliance framework, and support relevant business areas and assurance teams in understanding their responsibilities and obligations within the framework.

You will need to build open and honest relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and help to educate the business about the regulatory compliance framework and support them with the effective transfer of existing compliance processes into the framework.

Acting as a central point of contact for the operation of the framework, connecting and liaising with Legal, Internal Audit, Company Secretary and the business owners/compliance areas

Utilising your expertise you will be responsible for identifying any compliance areas where there are gaps and/or inadequate controls. You will where appropriate, arrange for additional support.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a Senior commercial Lawyer with a particular focus on Regulatory Compliance within a large organisation. Is able to lead and develop a team of Senior Legal Counsel . And can engage with the business to educate them in what compliance is, and how it can effectively be achieved.

Job Requirements

Requirements include, but are not exclusive to:

- Ability to manage and motivate a team, and take responsibility for
the development of team members.
- Supporting direct reports to be effective business partners and
highly influential within their area of expertise.
- Able to implement and manage a group-wide regulatory compliance
framework in line with the risk profile and strategic objectives of the
business
- To enhance knowledge and understanding of the compliance
framework, and support relevant business areas and assurance
teams in understanding their responsibilities and obligations within
the framework.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Qualified to practice as a solicitor in the
United Kingdom
- Significant experience as a Senior Regulatory Lawyer.
- Sound understanding of commercial environment, and an ability to provide commercial solutions
- Good relationship management skills both internally and externally
- Track record of advising at all levels of an organisation, including to executives, CEO and Board level.
- A demonstrable, proactive, commercial and solutions-led approach to compliance.
