The budgeted salary range for this role is set at £40,000 - £42,000

Contract - Permanent 

The role is located on the Leckford Estate, the Waitrose & Partners Farm, in the Test Valley, Hampshire. 

About the role

As the Gardens & Grounds Manager you will be responsible for approx 120 acres of grounds and all the Leckford Estate amenity tree stock. There are many key features: Arboretum, Kitchen Garden, Glass houses and the world-famous Longstock Park Water Garden.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Adherence to all legal requirements and Partnership governance (environment, health & safety).  Early adoption of emerging new requirements

  • Formulation and onward management of the Leckford Amenity tree stock policies, procedures and activity.  Ensuring legal and environmental compliance.

  • Lead and manage the Water Garden Visit business, developing the offer & ensuring  delivery of maximum income streams, whilst creating a positive customer experience.

  • Ensure Horticultural standards are at the agreed level.

  • Support Partnership & Estate events throughout the year. 

  • Respond to severe weather events, managing a safe and effective response to situations as they arise, ensuring the continued critical operation of Estate departments.

Essential skills you will need

  • Minimum Level 4 Amenity Horticultural qualification

  • Full driving licence including trailer towing entitlement 

  • Basic Tree inspection Certificate

  • Extensive experience managing a significant garden, open to the public.

  • Contractor Management

  • Arboricultural Management 

  • Experience leading a team

  • Excellent Plant Knowledge
