Duties & Responsibilities

The Group IT Architecture Team here at The John Lewis Partnership are delighted to advise that they have an opportunity for a Domain Architect (Customer Delivery & Fulfilment) to join us here at the Partnership, working for both John Lewis and Waitrose.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining the forward technology strategy and roadmap for Customer Delivery & Fulfilment for John Lewis and Waitrose, as well as leading the architecture response to new business or IT demand within this domain.

The scope of the domain covers the physical fulfilment of customer orders, from the point at which they reach the stock holding location (i.e. a distribution centre or store) through to the delivery to a customer's home or a collection point.

Job Requirements

As the Domain Architect for Customer Delivery & Fulfilment, you will be responsible for:
- Understanding the forward Customer Delivery and Fulfilment business strategy for both John Lewis and Waitrose
- Working collaboratively with the business & IT teams to define, and maintain the technology strategy and roadmap to support that business strategy
- Advising the business teams on the key technology capabilities that they need to fulfil their business roadmap & strategy
- Liaising between business and IT stakeholders, to identify business challenges and future opportunities
- Leading the architecture response (i.e. use existing technology, purchase new technology) to new business or IT demand within the Customer Delivery & Fulfilment domain
- Managing the pipeline of architecture demand for that domain
- Running selection of new technology where required, in order to meet the demand (i.e. RFI, RFP)
- Providing direction on how the solution response fits into the target architecture for the Customer Delivery and Fulfilment domain and into the wider JLP IT architecture
- Liaising between the business and IT delivery teams to ensure that the solution response balances return on investment/early release of business value with delivery considerations
- Contributing to the creation of compelling business cases, considering capabilities, agility, risks and costs
- Monitoring of industry - including emerging technologies and trends - and continually assessing their suitability for use within the Partnership.
Working closely with other business facing architecture domain Architects, such as warehousing and Logistics, Merchandise Operations and Customer Ordering; and technology aligned domains such as Information/Integration
- Defining and maintaining architectural principles, standards, and patterns

You will have excellent communication skills, be self starting and be able to adopt a consultative approach to effectively manage and influence a variety of stakeholders and decision makers. Additionally, you will remain apprised of current industry technology, best practices and trends, and will leverage this insight to recommend and design appropriate solutions.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

To be considered for this role, you will need to have experience of at least the majority of the points below:
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Customer Delivery & Fulfilment domain
- Knowledge of the retail businesses in food and department stores
- Experience of working with SaaS/Cloud software alongside 'Commercial off the Shelf Packages' and a mix of in house developed assets
- Significant, proven and successful domain expertise and experience in terms of IT Solution Design
- Knowledge of relevant industry architecture frameworks and standards (e.g.TOGAF)
- Knowledge of IT governance and operation

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

You will need knowledge/expertise across a number of the following technologies:
- Delivery tracking
- Customer Delivery Control Tower and Event Management
- Delivery execution (including delivery routing & scheduling)
- eCommerce/dark store picking, packing and fulfilment
- Click and collect
- Marketplace / supplier interaction portals

*Internally this role is known as ITL5 Enterprise Architect (Customer Fulfilment)
** As this is a dual site role, this successful candidate will need to be able to travel between both head office sites but can decide whether to be based out of our Head Office in London or Bracknell
