Duties & Responsibilities

The Group IT Architecture Team here at The John Lewis Partnership are currently seeking applications for an Enterprise Information Architect to join them based out of our Head Office, London, Victoria.

You will understand the opportunities and challenges in creating data architecture frameworks and models that build on the heritage and reputation of the John Lewis and Waitrose brands - understanding the nature and structure of our data is critical to establishing and maintaining this trust.

Working as a member of the Information & Integration Architecture domain team, you will be responsible for the creation and evolution of Pan-Partnership approaches to and implementations of our logical data models and data architecture, as well as accelerating our information governance approaches (reference data, MDM, data stewardship, metadata management) with our key business stakeholders.

Information Architecture underpins our ability to use data effectively in an IT context, in terms of Analytics/BI and system integration, but also to support the emerging areas of data science, machine learning, AI & cognitive capabilities. As the pace of IT change accelerates, you will need to define an approach that supports both the creation of a robust data architecture and the demands of a SDLC that demands increasing speed and agility.

Job Requirements

As an Enterprise Information Architect working across both of our John Lewis and Waitrose brands, your role will be to define Partnership approaches to data architectures as well as to provide guidance to data architecture delivery within projects. We will leverage your skills and experience to ensure that we are using information consistently and effectively across our increasingly integrated businesses.

You will need to evolve an overall approach to managing data architecture and establish an effective and pragmatic way of working within the team of data architects. You will also need to work with Business and IT stakeholders across John Lewis, Waitrose and Group functions to ensure that the tools, methods and data governance meet their needs whilst also supporting the overall Partnership strategy.

While the team will build upon the work of previously separate teams of Data Architects in both John Lewis and Waitrose, this role offers a significant opportunity to drive a real change in capability to support a global brand in an ever more data-driven industry.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have the following experience/skills:
- Strong experience of data modelling techniques and approaches—canonical, conceptual, logical & physical—and their practical application (ideally within a retail business)
- Strong working knowledge of technologies and approaches to both integration and analytics, as well as the emerging domains of data science, machine learning, AI & cognitive
- Good knowledge of IT governance frameworks and approaches
- Good working knowledge of relevant information and payment legislation (such as GDPR and PCI)
