Duties & Responsibilities

In Group Customer Insight at the John Lewis Partnership we live and breathe data; it drives our marketing, insights and passion for customer centricity. Our mission in GCI is to not only optimise our existing data asset through improved quality and richness, but to also leverage the power of data by scaling the impact of our analysis.

We currently have an opportunity for a Customer Insight Analyst to join the team in London Victoria on a permanent basis, to work with stakeholders to create analytical briefs; design and carry out customer analysis using transactional and behavioural data for John Lewis in order to add value to the business by drawing insightful conclusions and by making actionable recommendations.

Job Requirements

Key responsibilities:
- Be passionate about customer insight and be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Partnership's customers; their behaviours, characteristics and relationship with the organisation
- Develop a thorough and detailed understanding of the Partnership Customer Database (PCD) data model - table structures and data definitions; how the data was collected and its sufficiency and accuracy
- Analyse project briefs and contribute to the design of the most appropriate analysis approach to be adopted
- Code data extracts and create the analysis data set, code and undertake descriptive statistics and subsequent data pre-processing as required, code and undertake statistical analyses required by the brief for the project
- Convert statistical analyses and results into meaningful customer insights relating to the business problem defined in the brief
- Undertake the presentation of findings and recommendations to internal clients and support presentations for more senior stakeholders
- Establish effective working relationships with stakeholders in the John Lewis Division
- Act as an operational interface between the Divisions and GCI with respect to delivering customer insight projects

Examples of Customer Insight Projects undertaken in this Role:

• New store openings
• Understanding multi-channel customer usage and migration
• Customer journeys on-line to in-store to on-line etc
• Customer/store interaction and loyalty
• Triggers for customer engagement and lapsing


Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Experience of customer insight techniques and analysis within a data intensive organisation.
- Preferably retail or other sector with high volumes of customer transactional data.
- Advanced user of SAS
- Experience using SQL
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Experience in the preparation and delivery of presentations
