Duties & Responsibilities

John Lewis Merchandising is one of the most crucial and dynamic places to be in the Partnership.

Our huge range of products doesn't just need to excite and inspire customers, it must also be profitable. That's where our commercially focused Merchandising team come in.

It's their challenge to work with the buyers to build the strategy and the range that will deliver all financial targets, whilst balancing the flow of stock into the business.

A huge amount of planning goes into deciding what products are placed in what branches and the shape of the ranges we offer. This involves the merchandising teams working with their buying counterparts across functions such as space planning, retail, and distribution to ensure plans are delivered as per the strategy and vision.

Joining the team as an Assistant Merchandiser will involve managing the teams day to day operations, and working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to drive sales and increase profit.

Your role will be about spotting and capitalising on opportunities, mitigating risks and taking the lead on in-season trading and forecasting to ensure your team and the overall team meet the KPI's.

This role involves line management giving you the opportunity to drive the scope, training and development of the Merchandising Assistants in your team.

Job Requirements

Your role will include:

- Analysing, developing and delivering a commercial range of products, by effective range planning.

- Giving your input into the department strategy and working closely with the Merchandiser/Senior Merchandiser, buying team and suppliers.

- Supporting the Merchandiser to maximise commercial opportunities and make trading decisions through the effective management of stock and analysis of the Weekly Sales and Stock Intake report.

- Manages the supply base to deliver required stocks and drives sales through improved stock availability.

- Produces short-term forecasts to manage stock levels, rephrasing deliveries and managing stock flow through the business.

- Demonstrates long-term forecasting by inputting into future season targets.

- Manages product lifecycle from launch through to exit of product ranges.

- Reacts with speed to any changes in sales performance, identifying changes in demand, and commercial opportunities.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Experience as a Merchandising Assistant or existing Assistant Merchandiser would be an advantage
- Can demonstrate management/leadership skills
- Enjoys working with numerical data
- Accurate and with good attention to detail
- Prioritises effectively
- Works well under pressure
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Willing to take on responsibility quickly
- Commercially aware
- Team player
- Good communicator
- Maths GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent)

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- Degree qualified
