Duties & Responsibilities

● Optimise the customer experience through effective interpretation of design briefs and business case.
● Facilitate the approval of all proposals, internal elevations and finishes, lighting and ceiling plans though design governance process.
● Manage prototyping and trial assessment of design solutions gathering and acting on stakeholder feedback.
● Maintain a thorough understanding of store design planning principles, the overall look and feel of John Lewis, shop fit, equipment and related capital and operational costs.
● Develop excellent working relationships with all cross functional work streams and third party agencies.
● Ensure that the input of store design is balanced with third parties (architects, design agencies) project planners, space, Property Services and Retail to ensure that all proposals optimise the store environment and customer experience.
● Ensure all Health & Safety and DDA requirements are met and the approval level of due diligence has been completed.
● Provide clear planning guidelines for new design solutions and end users in the branch.
● Ensure all design solutions are in line with John Lewis brand guidelines and sustainability targets.
● Ensure all proposals are coordinated with Store Planning Designers and are made in a timely manner in-line with agreed internal and cross functional processes.
● Act as the Concept Design lead responsible for all Beauty brands' new concepts, checking brand proposals against agreed guidelines and ensuring timely submissions in line with the programme
● Responsible for ensuring due diligence element of the process is effectively developed, documented, managed and delivered for all design solutions.
● Creates well defined relationships to guarantee projects are delivered on time and to budget. Understands the interrelationships between internal stakeholders / Group / external suppliers.
● Aware of the challenges laid out in the PEP Strategy related to affordability.
● Use costs and insight of to create innovative design solutions which reduce cost and drive value
● Demonstrates up to date commercial, sustainable and design awareness, including maintaining an up-to-date assessment of retail developments in the UK and worldwide.

Job Requirements

To support the design and development of concept design solutions for all John Lewis Formats ensuring that the designs are optimised through the quality of the in-store customer experience and support commercial effectiveness of the store.

To work towards the ongoing goal of being the centre of expertise for concept design solutions contributing to a high performing culture within store development.

To work collaboratively with key colleagues to manifest the above in the delivery of great store environments and capital planning projects through ongoing optimisation of design, planning, space utilisation and cost efficiency

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

● Experience managing wide range of projects and developed communication skills
● Experience of working with and managing 3rd party resource (e.g. architects and shopfitters).
● Proficient user or understanding of:
- 2D & 3D CAD software (AutoDesk products desirable).
- Working understand of 3D Studio, Sketch up and Rendering Software.
- Intermediate Construction Drawing and basic Drafting Skills.
- Adobe Photoshop, illustrator and Indesign CC
