Duties & Responsibilities

John Lewis Partnership is offering you the opportunity to join this unique co-owned business to provide Architectural expertise in support of the ongoing development and management of the property portfolio for the John Lewis & Partners, Waitrose & Partners brands, distribution network and Partnership Clubs. The successful candidate can expect a wide and varied workflow ranging from technical appraisals of large development projects, more granular engagement with building refurbishment schemes and elevational treatments, rebranding and the production of feasibility drawings. The Partnerships property portfolio has a wide range of buildings from new developments to historic listed buildings. You will be the relationship manager for our externally sourced Architectural Partners covering our core trading development activities and play a key role in the development of our BIM Strategy and maintaining the integrity of our new and historic architectural records. This role is dual located between Bracknell and Victoria has regular UK wide travel and we operate flexibly as required for mutual benefit.

Job Requirements

Key responsibilities to include;

- Lead the selection and recommendation to appoint appropriate architectural and design practices to support all Waitrose workstreams, ensuring professional fees represent good value for money, scopes of service are clearly defined and appointments appropriately documented
- Effectively manage architect and design consultant performance and service levels, take appropriate corrective action when required
- Develop and maintain for all workstreams architectural, site layout and master planning design standards and material specifications, ensuring that location-specific variations are called out and approved Commission, consider and report on internal or external benchmarks, industry best practice, emerging building technologies and future innovation to ensure Waitrose achieves continuous improvement and market-leading design solutions; spearhead innovation in building design and the flexible development of new space
- Manage external architects and design consultants to support the Asset Management Team to deliver viable and efficient building designs to accommodate extensions or redevelopments.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Industry recognised architectural qualification (RIBA Pt III or ARB registration)
- Post-qualification professional experience in architecture or a related discipline
- Proven team leadership and management skills
- Sound understanding of BIM
- Sound understanding of current and emerging technologies in architectural and design practice
- Sound working knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT
- Sound knowledge of sustainable design principles and metrics e.g. BREEAM certification
- Experience in property development, design, fit-out, construction and cost control
- In-depth knowledge of retail and expectations and use of equipment within that environment

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- Relevant degree and corporate membership of an appropriate Institution
-Retail experience in architectural delivery
- Financial/commercial understanding of business models and business plans
