At a glance
Flexible working - This role can be based at our Bracknell or London offices. However please note that if based in London, this role will require self funded travel to Bracknell once a week (Wednesdays). The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business
Salary range - The salary range for this role is set at £42,200 -£60,600
Contract type - This position is a 12 month fixed term contract
About the role
Sustainability is deeply rooted in our DNA here at the John Lewis Partnership and it is central to our pursuit of a happier world. We are excited to be recruiting for an Ethics & Sustainability Specialist within our Fisheries & Aquaculture team. The successful candidate will play a key part in the acceleration and integration of our sustainability plans across two of the UK’s most loved brands, Waitrose and John Lewis. You will be contributing to the delivery of our Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Strategy to deliver commercial results with positive ethics and sustainability outcomes. Your work will have a direct influence on the seafood we sell and a positive on-the-water impact in the fisheries and farms we source from.
Day to day you will:
Maintain our leading position on responsible seafood sourcing: regularly review the sustainability of our fisheries and farms, and evaluate new product requests
Encourage continuous improvement to achieve best practice: leading our Fisheries Improvement Projects, introducing sustainability innovations in the supply chain, tracking progress against our fish KPIs
Influence positive change through stakeholder relationships: engage on the farm/vessel, with our suppliers, NGOs, Government, and wider industry
Communicate our ambitions and leadership in Fisheries and Aquaculture- across the partnership, within our Waitrose Fish Forum, to the media and our customers

Essential skills you’ll need
Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience in specialism of Acquaculture & Fisheries (e.g. fisheries management, aquaculture, marine biology).
Good IT and data management skills
Good written and verbal communicator
Excellent organisational skills
Ability to interpret and communicate fisheries and aquaculture data, particularly stock fish assessments
Strong interest in and passion for sustainability
Strong attention to detail
Experience in leading the delivery of successful strategic projects
Professional experience in work relating to Fisheries & Aquaculture (e.g. fisheries and/or aquaculture science, policy, management, industry engagement)
