Duties & Responsibilities

We'll give you all the training you need to kick-start your career.

You'll gain the qualifications you need to do the job and the opportunity of securing a permanent LCV Maintenance Technician role with us at the end of your apprenticeship.

What will you learn as part of your apprenticeship?

LCV engineering principles - including vehicle applications, configurations, designs, diagnostics, technologies and vehicle testing standards and maintenance schedules
LCV engineering practices - including inspecting, servicing, maintaining vehicles and trailers, quality checks and roadside assistance
Using engineering tools and equipment - including hand and power tools, engineering and technical manuals and diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment
Team work– including effective written and verbal communication skills, working as part of a team and taking ownership and responsibility when required

Job Requirements

This 3-year programme which culminates in an end point assessment will equip you with the skills and knowledge to competently maintain our fleet of vehicles whilst achieving a Level 3 apprenticeship.

We are looking for an Apprentice to join our team based at Coulsdon (Croydon). If successful, you will start your apprenticeship in October 2019.

You will work alongside a buddy who will be an experienced member of the team. They will support you through the programme and help you put into practice what you learn.

Your Line Manager and your Apprentice Coach from the external Training company will be working with you and supporting you during your Apprenticeship.

From the beginning, you will start to work through various elements of your programme. This will include a mix of 'on-the-job' and 'off-the-job' training. You'll meet regularly with your Line Manager and Apprentice Coach to plan your learning.

During the 3 years of the Apprenticeship you will follow a college block release structure of a total of 7 weeks per year; this will be in 7 x 1 week blocks. During your college block release you will be required to travel to the S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol. S&B Automotive Academy are able to support with arranging 'home stay' accommodation during this week to help with travel.

You should consider your travel distance to the location you are applying for. Access to transport would be beneficial.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

This role is subject to the following pre-employment screening for internal and external candidates.

- Medical Check

Educational criteria checks are also required and these will be completed by our Apprenticeship Provider S&B Automotive Academy. Once you have completed your application form a Partner from our Resourcing Team will be in contact to advise on next steps.

GCSE's or equivalent, Functional Skills or Key Skills at grade C/Level 1 or above in English and Maths are required for this apprenticeship.

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

This role would suit someone who is a team player, reliable, has good communication skills (written and verbal) and a positive, proactive approach to learning. You'll enjoy practical work, whilst demonstrating attention to detail in order to maintain high customer standards to deadlines.

Work experience/prior knowledge is beneficial but not essential.

An Assessment Day for this position will be held on Thursday 1st August 2019
