Duties & Responsibilities

The Financial Accounting team is part of the Partnership Finance team. It supports the financial reporting of John Lewis Partnership, working closely with Finance Operations, Finance Business Partners and the Centre for Planning, Reporting and Analysis, as well as other specialist teams.

This team of eight oversees accounting for complex and judgmental accounting areas as well as consolidated and company-only statutory accounts (half year, year end, consolidation, reporting to the Audit and Risk Committee). Additional involvement in projects, new accounting standards, controls and ad hoc pieces of work.

Job Requirements

Key responsibilities within this role include:
Service Delivery, Relationship Management & Partnership Mindset

1) Accurate and timely preparation of deliverables (e.g. journals, statutory accounts, Audit and Risk Committee reporting , reviews, calculations & models)

2) Influencing and managing relationships with stakeholders (teams, functional, Partnership, external) to enable the successful delivery of activities and projects

3) Proactively maintaining role as subject matter expert, including keeping up to date with internal and external development in relevant business/regulatory areas

4) Developing an significant working knowledge of relevant finance and business relevant end to end processes

5) Preparing commentary/explanation in response to queries from stakeholders

Delivering Change & Continuous Improvement

1) Accountable for seeking to make continuous improvements to propositions, processes, controls and/or policies both proactively and based on feedback and insight from stakeholders, colleagues and customers

Ensuring Compliance

1) Ensuring compliance with and effective performance of key relevant internal controls and regulatory requirements within teams including those required under the Internal Controls Framework

2) Handling confidential and sensitive data in a professional manner

Role Location: Bracknell based with some travel to other locations required. For example, this may include a need to be co-located with the External Financial Reporting & Policy team based in London e,g, for a continuous period of time (i.e. up to six weeks) at year end or half year.

Requires flexibility to work across different areas to gain a cycle of experience and meet varying business demand including month end/year end peaks.

There are year end and half year end peaks in February, March, April, August and September which require longer working hours.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- ACA, CIMA or ACCA recently qualified or exam finalist
- Experience within an accounting environment, commercial or practice

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- Statutory accounts preparation
- Audit
- Experience of Oracle financial systems
- Retail experience
