Duties & Responsibilities

Here at Waitrose we are currently looking to recruit for a dedicated Agriculture Manager, Livestock to join our forward thinking, dynamic team.

As the Agriculture Manager, Livestock it is your responsibility to ensure a secure supply of meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products for our own label products that  meets our required standards into the long term.

You'll help the team maintain Waitrose & Partners' reputation as the market leader in sustainable and ethical farming and having the strongest partnerships with farmers.

This role would best suit a self-starter with extensive experience in managing livestock supply chains with a deep understanding and expert knowledge of livestock production across a range of species.

You'll demonstrate outstanding relationship management skills particularly with farmers in a range of sectors but also senior corporate stakeholders and policy makers. A strong personal belief in the values of Waitrose & Partners holds with regards to ethical and sustainable farming is key. A forward thinking candidate who is able to demonstratean ability to anticipate future issues and propose pragmatic solutions.

The role requires close collaboration with the fresh produce category teams so an affinity for building strong working relationships and being a team player will be critical.  

Job Requirements

Identify issues relating to livestock production that our customers are likely to care about or could  affect our business in the future 
Provide expertise of livestock production to support the development of the overarching Agriculture, Aquaculture & Fisheries Strategy for Waitrose & Partners and ensure that it addresses the issues identified 
Represent Waitrose & Partners at agriculture  industry events and, where relevant to livestock  production, with policy makers, opinion formers and  Non Government Organisations.  
Build a strong relationship with our suppliers of meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products, and with the farmers that supply them.  
Work closely with the meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy Category Pods to ensure our supply chain delivers a secure, resilient supply of products and ingredients that support the category strategy, allow us to differentiate as a business on quality, taste, sustainability & ethics, at a competitive price. 
Develop agricultural policies, standards &  programmes for meat, poultry, dairy and egg  products, processors and farmers. 
Manage programmes to measure farm performance such as the Responsible Efficient Production Index; develop and maintain platforms and analyse data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.  
Monitor and report performance vs. target on our standards & policies internally and externally where required.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

Experience of working in the livestock sector essential,
Experience of managing livestock supply chains
Commercial Awareness
Line Management experience

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

Graduate calibre desirable.
Degree in agriculture related subject
