My name’s Luke Kundomal, I work at Peter Jones in Sloane Square. I’m currently working in the management office working on communications and marketing for the branch.
I chose to work here because I used to get my school uniform here, it’s my local shop, I really love shopping here, it’s a great place. It’s completely different to any other retailer, it looks after its customers.
There’s a big focus on developing yourself, whether that’s something quite small or something quite big or what you want to do - there’s constant meetings about how you’re getting on and what lies ahead of you.
It’s flexible, you’ve got so much scope to do whatever you want to do, it’s not just about coming into work and selling people TVs, if you want to sell people other things, that’s fine. But if you want to get involved in IT, buying, merchandising, there’s real scope to develop yourself and learn and train and learn how to do something else. So not many companies give you that opportunity to do that.
It’s not just a London company, it’s all over the UK, so if for whatever reason I had to move, I’m sure I wouldn’t have a problem relocating either my current role or just moving slightly differently. Or if I fancy a change then of course there’s always lists of vacancies and it’s just about speaking to people and saying, “look, this is what I want to do”, and you’ll never get someone who ignores you here, there’s always someone that’s there to listen to you and to try and help you do what you want to do.
You’re encouraged to share your ideas and even your criticisms so it’s not about being negative, it’s about being honest. If you feel that something’s not working, you’ve got to have the confidence and be able to say that, and you’re encouraged to.
It’s a great company to work for, everyone’s working towards the same goal, you’re not just an employee, you’re actually a Partner of the business and it’s great to be associated with a company that rewards its staff and gives great customer service to its customers, because at the end of the day you get a real buzz out of that.
