Retail Skills
Are you bright, motivated and articulate? Do you enjoy a challenge and have a genuine interest in retailing? If so, we can harness your energy and enthusiasm to turn you into a first-class retailer through our Personal Development Programme (PDP).
The programme will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to do your job effectively, and help you to take responsibility for filling any gaps in your understanding of retailing. There are no specific timescales built into the Personal Development Programme, but our aim is to settle you into the role as quickly as possible.
Once you have done this, there may be the opportunity to study for a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). An NVQ is a recognised qualification that is achieved in the workplace at a time and pace suited to the individual. There are no examinations – taking the qualification means being reviewed on a regular basis by your assessor. Once you have completed your programme by showing competence across a range of areas, you’ll be awarded an NVQ from City and Guilds.
We offer the following NVQ schemes, which should lead to qualification within two years:
· Retailing
· Customer Service
· Visual Merchandising and Display
· Security Guarding
· Distribution and Warehousing
· Business Administration
We currently offer in-house Level 2 in these NVQs, plus Level 3 in Customer Service.
Most of our stores offer Personal Development Programmes and NVQ schemes. Start dates vary from branch to branch, so please check with your local branch.
