Training and Development
We believe that the training and development opportunities offered to graduates at Waitrose fully justify the Partnership’s industry-wide reputation for quality talent development. Join us and you’ll benefit from a proven formula combining formal courses with in-branch training and practical exposure to management issues.
From leadership, communication and performance management to sales and business results analysis, you’ll be trained in a range of areas crucial to success in food retail management. Other courses focus on technical matters such as safety, security and law, and you’ll enjoy a week-long outward bound leadership programme.
Your training will take place across several food shops to give you the broadest experience possible. A Personnel Manager will provide coaching and guidance and help you to formulate your future personal development objectives. You’ll also meet regularly with your Branch Manager to review your performance.
At the end of your training, when you’re formally appointed as a Department Manager, you’ll be awarded a Licentiateship of the City and Guilds Institute (LCGI). We are proud to be the first private sector company to be granted authority to make these awards.
In addition, you’ll have the chance to complete a postgraduate qualification in retail management in association with the Institute of Grocery Distribution and a further City and Guilds qualification.
