Talking Technology
A modern and evolving retailer needs modern and evolving IT systems. This is why the John Lewis Partnership has consistently been an early adopter of technologies.
Today, our datacentre servers and other front-end processors, PC servers, workstations and our mobile computing infrastructure support the full width of our business applications on a 24/7 basis. It’s through this infrastructure that, overnight, we process and report our sales and distribution performance, store online information, and give our customers the convenience of online shopping offered by johnlewis.com and waitrose.com
We use a mixture of Java and COBOL running on z/OS, Unix and Windows architectures, and utilising DB2, SQL and Oracle databases, with CICS and Websphere as part of our online transaction processing environments. Don’t worry if this technical list leaves you none the wiser – if you’re new to IT, you’ll soon to get to grips with these and the other technologies we use, and understand how they have a big impact on our business.
