IT

Information technology is the central nervous system of our huge retail operation. This comprises 26 John Lewis department stores and some 184 Waitrose food shops, as well as other interests that include textile production units and a farm – all producing a combined annual turnover of over £5.7 billion.

Our IT systems are aimed at improving efficiency at every stage of the retail cycle – from buying through warehouse and delivery scheduling to barcode scanning and payment handling. The IT systems within the Partnership are looked after by our IT team based in Central London and Bracknell, Berkshire.

Our IT team consists of over 600 programmers, technicians, analysts, project managers and team leaders. But far from being ‘techies’, we aim to be retailers with IT understanding, working in partnership with all areas of our business.

Our IT group is split into four departments: three develop and support computer systems used in the John Lewis department stores, Waitrose food shops and Corporate departments; the fourth, Computer Services, develops and manages our technical infrastructure.
