John Lewis Vehicle Maintenance Apprenticeship
Are you interested in a career as a heavy vehicle technician? We are looking for Apprentices to join the fleet servicing team in Bracknell, Leyland, Aylesford and Milton Keynes on our fantastic apprenticeship scheme to learn the skills to repair, maintain and service a wide variety of vehicles within the Partnership’s fleet.

The aim of this 3-year programme is to equip our apprentices’ with the skills and knowledge to competently maintain our fleet of vehicles whilst achieving a Level 3 apprenticeship (equivalent to A-levels at grades A to E). We will give you all the training you need to kick start your career and secure a permanent role with us once you’ve successfully completed your apprenticeship. Your training will be both ‘on the job’ and off-site in our vehicle maintenance training academy located in Bristol.
The salary for the role starts at £200 per week, rising to £260 after one year, £360 after two years and £460 after three years. To apply for the role you will need to have achieved Grade C in English and Maths GCSE or equivalent. A passion for the commercial vehicle/vehicle industry is desirable. You would work Monday to Friday whilst training but a flexible approach to your working hours is desired once qualified.
Our successful Vehicle maintenance apprentice would learn and become skilled in commercial vehicle engineering. They would also obtain the appropriate qualifications and work alongside skilled technicians in the repair and maintenance of our vehicle fleet whilst carrying our repairs under supervision as appropriate.
What will you learn as part of your apprenticeship?:
- HV engineering principles – including vehicle applications, configurations, designs, diagnostics, technologies and vehicle testing standards and maintenance schedules
- HV engineering practices – including inspecting, servicing, maintaining vehicles and trailers, quality checks and roadside assistance
- Using engineering tools and equipment – including hand and power tools, engineering and technical manuals and diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment
- Team working – including effective written and verbal communication skills, working as part of a team and taking ownership and responsibility when required

Our Distribution function is a key component of our market leading retail business and as a result, ensuring Partners in this area have the necessary skills to meet current and future needs is vital.
The John Lewis Partnership has six vehicle maintenance units; three service our Waitrose commercial vehicles and are based at Bracknell, Leyland and Aylesford, while three service our John Lewis commercial vehicles and are based at Blakelands, Milton Keynes and Northampton distribution centres.
These units are responsible for providing on-site assistance for all Partnership Commercial Vehicle defects, servicing, maintaining tractor units and trailers and undertaking accident repair work as necessary. In addition, they provide emergency assistance to the Partnership’s commercial fleet.
Pay in range: £10.38 - £13.77 plus an additional 3.1% shift premium
